Jason Priset holds a Master of Music (M.M.) & Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) from Stony Brook University with a specialization in Guitar Performance and over 15 years of teaching experience. Experience includes teaching at the University level (Stony Brook University for three years) and through the public school system at the primary level (Ivy League School in Smithtown, NY and St. Mary’s Elementary in Manhasset, NY).
For over 15 years Dr. Priset has also performed professionally in most styles including rock, blues, folk, jazz, and classical. He has performed with some of the finest musicians in the United States including Ray Anderson (Benny Wallace, John Scofield), Grant Herreid (Piffaro, ARTEK), and Johanna Marie Rose (Anonymous 4). As a teacher, Dr. Priset has helped guide students to be accepted into prestigious institutions such as SUNY Fredonia, Stony Brook University, Adelphi University, and the Peabody Institute.
Currently, Dr. Priset is accepting students for private one-on-one lessons and group lessons at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels. Anyone looking to pass a College audition or NYSSMA preparation should contact him.
All lessons follow this basic framework:
1. Musicianship. This includes understanding the theoretical elements of music and also developing the ability to listen to music in a constructive way.
2. Technique. It is extremely important to be able to play any instrument in the most efficient a manner possible. A musician with good technique is someone who seems to an audience to have the ability to play effortlessly.
As an educator Dr. Priset works with all students on these two things, no matter what style they prefer to learn. Lessons can also fun, oftentimes incorporating popular music, but always with the purpose of improving.
